Artist Statement:
Starting as a child, I always knew in the back of my mind that as I grew in my work, my true quest was to find my own voice in my use of whatever material I used to create it. Little did I know that solder for repairing pipes (which I had played with from time to time), gold leaf left over from gilding frames (because I’ve always enjoyed picture framing) and pastels (because I just started experimenting with them) would meld with the quiet and beauty of my grandmother’s old country house to inspire three pieces in 1992. It was in that work and on that day I found my voice in whatever materials and images surrounded me. I’ve been singing ever since.
